_ The aims of the traditional country home owners’ association, Maisons Paysannes de France, are :

 the preservation of the traditional country home, by promoting their maintenance and restoration in keeping with each region’s individual identity.
 the protection of the physical and human environment of traditional country homes and their surroundings.
 the promotion of a high-quality, healthy style of contemporary architecture that blends harmoniously with its surroundings.

Gites de France - Ariège The aims of the homeowners’ association “Gites de France” are to :

 Meet the needs and demands of tourists who are looking for authenticity, conviviality, nature, peace and quiet, new experiences and space to breathe.
 Take part in the promotion and conservation of heritage sites and the rural environment.
 Help stabilise rural populations by providing an additional source of income.
 Aid local development by increasing tourist accommodation capacity.
 Guide and advise people with projects in this area.
  Monitor the tourist accommodation stock, provide training for owners of such accommodation and publicise their offer in their publications, on their web site and at exhibitions etc.

Projet de Parc Naturel Régional des Pyrénées Ariégeoises (Plan for a regional nature park in the Ariège Pyrenees)
A Regional Nature Park is an area rich in elements of cultural, natural and landscape heritage, which are in danger of being lost. A development plan for the area is therefore drawn up, based on preserving and promoting these elements. The plan is described in the Park Charter. The area concerned is inhabited and man is therefore central to the plan’s success. Any rural area whose landscapes, natural environment and cultural heritage are fragile yet of great significance, may be classified a “Regional Nature Park”.

The CAP, or Conférence de l’Artisanat Pyrénéen (Pyrenees Council of Craftsmen), groups together the 6 Chambers of Trades and Crafts of the Pyrenees region (Ariège, Aude, Haute-Garonne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées et Pyrénées-Orientales). Its existence is a sign of the Chambers of Trades and Crafts’ voluntary commitment to take part actively in the future management of the Pyrenees. The CAP is a new structure, which does not coincide with any administrative zones but rather reflects the geographic, human and economic entity that are the Pyrenees. The mission of the Pyrenees Council of Craftsmen is therefore to implement and lead development projects involving small businesses and craftsmen in the Pyrenees Mountains.

In the context of this mission, the Pyrenees Council of Craftsmen is developing a veritable mountain policy, based on a very specific theme : eco-friendly building.

Leader is a European Commission program aimed at helping rural areas which have been chosen at national level (by the DATAR and the CNASEA in France), by supporting innovative development plans which are based on partnership and can be transferred to the 950 European local action groups (G.A.L.).

Since 1991, the objective of the Leader program has been to help areas make the most of their own resources, by creating employment opportunities and a dynamic economic situation. This involves increasing the competitive nature of products and services via collective action, whilst respecting the environment, equality of the sexes and the use of new technologies.

Conseil Général de l’Ariège (Ariège Local Council)
Since decentralisation of local government, the Local Council plays an important part in the lives of all who live in the Ariège department, owing to its many remits : management of services, social support, education, culture etc.

Région Midi-Pyrenees
The Region is the newest administrative zone and has authority over the widest area of all. An essential partner for elected representatives and those responsible for economic and community policies, the role of the Regional Council has come to be seen as essential and, more often than not, decisive.
